Step into a wilder world. Come and enjoy each season; from ducklings to migrating swans - you’ll be amazed at how close you can get to fantastic wetland wildlife.
We offer hands-on experiences in amazing wetland habitats, linking with your work on adaptations and survival, food chains, the water cycle, birds and many more topics. We can cater for a wide range of ages, needs and abilities, so get in touch to book a fantastic day here at Martin Mere.
As well as taking part in a guided session there will be plenty of time for your group to explore the Centre. In order to make best use of this time, we have developed a range of self-guided resources which you can use to help extend your group’s learning.
What teachers say
"The organisation was superb and the activities magnificent. I already had high expectations for the day but the outcomes surpassed my expectations. Heartfelt and sincere thanks to all involved for such a perfect trip. Life long memories were created today."

1:5 - Pre-school to Key Stage 1
1:10 - Key Stage 2+
We meet you at the coach park and show you to your classroom – your basecamp for the day. There are plenty of toilets if you need them before we start your first session.
Guided learning session 1
For KS1, your first pre-booked guided learning session might be ‘What lives in a pond? For KS2, the one-hour session ‘How do animals live in a pond?’ might be all you need, as it contains a variety of activities to meet a range of learning objectives.
There are lots of lawns and picnic areas, or you can use your classroom base.
Your self-guided discovery time, with pre-booked resources appropriate to your age group, will take you through our amazing waterfowl gardens where many of the ducks and geese will feed from the children’s hands. It will also take you to ‘Wild Walk’, where you can safely let the children explore the reed bed paths, hidden lookouts and dens.
We will book you a 30-minute session in our adventure playground. While you are there, the children could visit our gift shop, or you could pick up any pre-booked goody bags.
Are you looking to allow your group to let off some steam and, more importantly, tire them out for the coach journey home? Our adventure playground has climbing, sliding and balancing equipment plus a wet play area with squirty rocks and sprinklers controlled by the children. We can book you a half-hour slot on your timetable.
Go off the beaten track and into the wild wetlands, with a reedbed maze and balance beams through the swamp. The whole area is fenced and you can keep an eye or an ear on the safety of your children from the middle maze lodge. Our guided learning sessions on plants and water cycle use Wild Walk, but it is still great to explore under your own steam.
We have plenty of fun items for sale from 50p upwards. The shop is next to the play area so we can book you in for a half hour slot for both, during which you can send the children to the gift shop in smaller groups.
We can arrange with the gift shop to make you up goody bags before your visit. You just need to tell us what you want in them – your free planning and preparation visit is a good time to decide on this.
Cost: Variable, suitable for all budgets.
We can open the craft room for your children to make a badge, fridge magnet, brass rubbing or a cardboard duck hat after your guided sessions.
Cost: 60p or £1.50 per item
Many of our ducks and geese will come up for a nibble and many will even eat grain from your hand, if you approach the birds gently. A very valuable experience for children (and adults!)
Cost: £1 per bag
