Things to see and do
With more than enough to fill a whole day, there’s so much to see and do at Castle Espie Wetland Centre.

Hand feed birds from around the world
One of the unforgettable joys of visiting Castle Espie. Experience close encounters with some of the world’s most amazing birds. With grain provided as part of your visit, you and your pupils will get up close and personal with these feathered wonders.

Dip for creatures in our state of the art ponds
With our state of the art underwater camera and large screen television, you and your pupils will be able to see pond creatures like never before in our amazing re-vamped pond zone. We provide access to this hidden world which few can match.

Go wild with natural play
After exercising their brains, your pupils can let off some steam in our natural play areas. With zip line, climbing wall, rope bridge and more, there’s something for children of all ages.

Bring your history curriculum to life
From creatures that predated the dinosaurs to the Victorians and more, WWT Castle Espie is an ideal venue to bring your history curriculum to life. Through tailored sessions, we illuminate history in an entertaining and engaging way.

Watch 30,000 wintering geese on Strangford Lough
Our child-friendly hides provide the perfect viewpoint to observe thousands of migratory Brent geese as they winter on Strangford Lough. A breath-taking natural spectacle not to be missed.

Explore our magical woodlands
Our woodlands are a great place to explore, revealing the mini-beasts which live amongst the logs and leaf litter. From devil’s coach horsemen beetles to pill millipedes, we have a plethora of wildlife under our feet waiting to be discovered.

Experience our sensory garden
Designed for a more reflective experience, our sensory garden is ideally suited to those with special needs. Full of textures, colours and scents, it is a quiet spot which allows both children and adults to explore using a range of senses.

Visit our diving ducks and duckery
Watch diving ducks in action in our state of the art diving tanks and see some incredible birds in our enclosures. Baby ducklings and goslings may also be on show, but contact the centre for details as this will be on a seasonal basis.
