Keeping you and your learners safe

We continue to work hard to ensure that all learning visits are Covid-safe. We have always taken pride in our personal approach and we will work directly with you to ensure that your safety needs are met and any concerns addressed.

We are regularly updating our risk assessments for learning visits in line with the latest guidance. Your safety is our first priority.

Learning sessions

Informative and engaging, our curriculum-linked learning sessions at WWT Llanelli are based in the outdoors and are suitable for a range of ages and abilities. See the available sessions here.

Generation Wild

Generation Wild is our new nature-connection project for schools and families. It is available free of charge to schools with over 30% of pupils eligible for free school meals. This includes free visits (and transport) to Llanelli Wetland Centre.

Self-guided resources

As well as taking part in a guided session there will be plenty of time for your group to explore the Centre. In order to make best use of this time, we have developed a range of self-guided resources which you can use to help extend your group’s learning.

What teachers say

"The staff were brilliant. They were very enthusiastic and engaged our children expertly with extremely enjoyable activities. The contributions of the children were valued and all were happy to take part. Each of our accompanying adults said that it had been a very enjoyable, well-organised and stress-free visit. Thank you very much. "

Sample itinerary

We will meet you on arrival, show you where you can store your bags and take you to your guided learning session.

Learning session

Your pre-booked guided learning session will start shortly after arrival (usually about 10am). Most sessions last between 1 ½ hours and 2 hours. If you have booked a self-guided visit, we will meet you with any pre-booked resources you require, maps of the centre, and answer any queries so that you can make the most of your day.

We will provide an indoor space for you to eat your lunch, and there is a café if you would like to buy refreshments. The café will also top up your water bottles.

Self-guided time

Our admission price includes full access to the centre for the day.  Take advantage of the self-guided resources we have to offer (pre-book), spend some time hand feeding the birds, visit the shop or let off some steam in one of our play areas.

Added extras

Gift shop

We have plenty of fun items for sale from 75p upwards. The shop is near our Flamingo Bay play area so you can send the children to the gift shop in smaller groups while the rest of the class let off some steam. We can also arrange with the gift shop to make you up goody bags for your visit. You will just need to tell us what you want in them, either during your pre-visit or when you arrive on the day.

Play areas

Children will love to swing and climb in our fabulous flamingo themed outdoor play area, Flamingo Bay, located close to the centre building. Or head out to the wild wetland nature reserve and have fun crawling through the tunnels of Water Vole City.

Our ‘Explore’ play area near ‘Wiggly Wood’ offers balance beams and winding paths through the reed beds, while ‘Wiggly Wood’ is the ideal destination for some self-led den building.

Allow your learners to see the birds up close and feel like a proper ‘birder’. Binoculars are provided free of charge and come in a handy rucksack.

Bird seed

Many of our ducks and geese will come up for a nibble and many will even eat grain from your hand, if you approach the birds gently. A very valuable experience for children (and adults!)
