Self-guided visits

Explore the wetlands and its wildlife throughout the year, using our self-guided resources.

Learn about the importance of the Ouse Washes wetlands at WWT Welney Wetland Centre.

Our visitor centre has all the facilities you need as a base for a day of self-guided exploration. Free use of our Pond Room as a base for your group for the day, toilets, gift shop and café are all located close to hand. Our Fenland Worlds Discovery Centre next to the Pond Room is available to learn about the year-round conservation work at Welney as well as where we fit within the Fens.

In winter, learn about migratory birds at our daily wild swan feeds and witness thousands of swans, ducks and waders on the reserve. We can supply birdwatching equipment to borrow.

In summer, investigate different ecosystems by using our equipment to go pond dipping (reserved pond dipping stations for your use), bug hunting and bird watching.

Make use of a free familiarisation trip for the teaching lead ahead of the visit date to plan your day.
